Small Cap Picks from January 2019 JPMorgan Healthcare Conference

We attended the J.P.Morgan Healthcare Conference in January and came up with three buy picks AMRN,GNMK,TDOC. All have been good trades although very volatile. Note that the small cap sector has not done as well as the S&P YTD up 24.21 % YTD,  compared to the Russell 2000 (IWM) up 17.55% YTD.      The XBI is up 14.63% YTD and then IBB is up 9.33% helped by a strong October performance.

2019 has been a choppy year for small caps.

The iShares S&P Small Cap (IJR) shows a very choppy 2019 with multiple tops around $81, down today around $79.42.

Here is the performance of the three small caps from J.P. Morgan Conference. All are strong holds but look for overweighting TDOC on weakness.

Amarin (AMRN) $16.42. Traded and still holding but initial buy was $14.75. Earnings call next week on 11/5. Additional regulatory approvals are expected. Analyst recommendation  is a strong 1.6.

Genmark (GNMK) $5.65. Still holding bought at $6.22. High for 2019 was about $8, so trending down. May lose money on next earnings report  next week but key will be revenue growth.

Teledoc (TDOC) $74.44. Bought at $54.50 still holding but trading. Recent earnings propelled the stock upward despite a loss but there was a 34% revenue gain over past 9 months . Issue is too much debt with a P/B of 31.58. Stock has broken through to $80 as of 11/7/19

Disclosure long AMRN, GNMK, TDOC.
